Tesla has formed a strategic commercial partnership with peer-to-peer car rental platform Turo, introducing a nationwide promotional program designed to accelerate real-world consumer adoption of its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software suite. The partnership enables vehicle hosts and renters to experience autonomous driving features during extended road trips.
Under the agreement, eligible Tesla hosts across the United States who list their Model 3, Model Y, or Cybertruck vehicles on Turo will receive a complimentary 30-day trial of the $8,000 Full Self-Driving package. In parallel, guests who book Tesla vehicles through Turo will receive interactive onboarding guides, vehicle prompts, and safety tutorials detailing how to engage supervised autonomous lane changes, navigation on autopilot, and traffic signal recognition.
The campaign marks a significant evolution in Tesla’s go-to-market strategy. Automobile industry analysts have long noted that brief 15-minute dealership test drives are ill-suited for conveying the capabilities of complex driver-assist systems, as prospective buyers frequently feel intimidated by unfamiliar automated steering and braking behaviors in high-pressure dealership environments. By contrast, multi-day Turo rentals allow vacationers and business travelers to build familiarity with FSD across diverse highway and urban environments.
The Turo tie-up also serves a broader strategic objective for Tesla, as the electric vehicle maker builds consumer comfort and brand familiarity ahead of its anticipated commercial robotaxi network rollouts. By embedding supervised autonomous experiences into peer-to-peer travel, Tesla is cultivating grassroots consumer demand while gathering valuable telemetry across non-owner driving demographics.
