South Korean authorization adds another market to Samsung's hearing-assistance plans, with Galaxy Buds4 Pro and Buds3 Pro software support expected in early 2027.

Samsung's plans to turn compatible Galaxy Buds into hearing-assistance devices reached another regulatory milestone on November 5, 2026. According to GSMArena's reporting, South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has approved the company's Hearing Test and Hearing Aid features for the Galaxy Buds4 Pro and Galaxy Buds3 Pro. The decision follows US Food and Drug Administration clearance announced in August.

The software combines a hearing assessment with personalized audio amplification. Samsung's Hearing Test uses pure-tone measurements to evaluate each ear separately and produces an audiogram describing the user's hearing characteristics. The Hearing Aid feature then uses those measurements to adjust sound amplification according to the frequencies that an individual struggles to hear.

Samsung's implementation relies on NAL-NL2, a recognized hearing-aid fitting formula developed by Australia's National Acoustic Laboratories. The company says its approach also incorporates noise reduction and directional microphone processing. Hearing-related information, including test results and noise exposure data, can be accessed through Samsung Health.

The intended audience includes adults aged 18 and older with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. Samsung's August US announcement described the functionality as an over-the-counter hearing-assistance option that does not require a prescription. The company also cautioned that it is not a substitute for professional diagnosis or treatment.

The new South Korean authorization does not mean the features are immediately available to every Galaxy Buds owner. GSMArena reports that the Korean software rollout is scheduled to begin in early 2027, while Samsung's earlier US announcement targeted the fourth quarter of 2026 for the United States and selected authorized markets. Compatibility, regional approvals, and software requirements remain important limitations.
