Nintendo reported weaker year-over-year Switch 2 hardware sales in financial materials released November 5, 2026, raising questions about how the console will perform during its second holiday shopping season. The company sold approximately 2.67 million Switch 2 systems during the three months ending September 30, a decline of roughly 41% compared with the corresponding period a year earlier.

For the six months ending September 30, Switch 2 hardware sales totaled approximately 6.49 million units, compared with 10.36 million during the previous year's equivalent period. That represents a decline of approximately 37.4%. The comparison includes the console's unusually strong 2025 launch period, making the year-over-year decrease significant but not directly comparable to an established console's typical sales cycle.

Pricing has become another important factor. Nintendo previously announced a $50 increase to the Switch 2's suggested US retail price, bringing it from $449.99 to $499.99 beginning September 1. The increase followed changes in market conditions and rising component costs. Because the new price applied for only the final month of the reporting period, the financial results do not establish how much the increase affected customer purchases.

Software performance provided a contrasting result. Nintendo reported approximately 24.49 million Switch 2 software units sold during the six-month period, an increase of 18.8% year over year. Digital sales also increased substantially, suggesting that existing console owners continued purchasing games despite slowing hardware momentum.

Nintendo maintained its forecast of 16.5 million Switch 2 hardware units for the fiscal year ending March 2027. The holiday quarter will provide an important measure of consumer demand at the revised price. The latest results indicate slower hardware sales, but they do not establish that the console's longer-term commercial prospects have deteriorated.
