Motorola has completed the unveiling of its Signature 27, bringing a new ultra-premium smartphone into direct competition with Samsung's most expensive Galaxy devices. The company confirmed a $1,599 US price for a configuration offering 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Presales begin November 19, followed by general availability on November 26. The November 5 announcement establishes the phone's final specifications and commercial plans after Motorola previewed the device earlier in the year.
The Signature 27 uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor and introduces a 7,000mAh silicon-carbon battery. Motorola specifies charging speeds of up to 90W over a cable and 50W through its proprietary wireless charging system. The company has also equipped the phone with IP68 and IP69 protection, although buyers looking for magnetic Qi2 accessories will find that the handset lacks integrated Qi2 magnets.
One of its defining components is a 6.8-inch tandem OLED display. Motorola advertises peak brightness reaching 12,000 nits, a figure associated with limited portions of the screen rather than sustained full-screen output. The dual-layer display design is intended to improve brightness and efficiency, but those benefits remain manufacturer claims until independently evaluated under comparable conditions.
Photography is another major focus. The rear system combines a 50MP main camera using Sony's Lytia L910 sensor, a 200MP telephoto camera with 3x optical magnification, and a 50MP ultrawide camera. Motorola also includes an Event Vision Sensor designed to identify motion and improve the capture of rapidly moving subjects. The hardware represents a substantial investment in mobile photography, although actual image quality and motion-capture performance have not been established by the announcement.
The Signature 27 also features audio designed in collaboration with Bang & Olufsen and support for GrapheneOS, the privacy-focused Android-based operating system. Motorola promises seven years of operating system upgrades, strengthening the phone's long-term ownership proposition. Whether the company can persuade consumers to pay Samsung-level flagship prices will depend on sustained software support, camera performance and the quality of the overall experience rather than specifications alone.
