Meta has abruptly suspended the public chat-sharing feature within its flagship Muse generative artificial intelligence platform after independent cybersecurity researchers uncovered a critical design vulnerability that exposed thousands of private user conversations, corporate secrets, and sensitive medical inquiries to the open web.

Security researchers at Claroc identified that Meta’s shared URL architecture generated predictable, sequential identifier tokens for users opting to share chat transcripts. By methodically scanning and enumerating these endpoint links, researchers successfully harvested more than 6,800 public conversation transcripts without requiring user authentication or bypassing encryption barriers.

The harvested database contained alarming disclosures of sensitive information. Transcripts included unreleased corporate strategic roadmaps, proprietary software source code, internal budget spreadsheets, student academic records, and intimate medical consultations. Following independent verification by WIRED and Ars Technica, Meta acknowledged the architectural flaw and took the sharing infrastructure offline while engineering high-entropy cryptographic hashes and mandatory access controls.

The incident highlights the growing compliance hazards associated with conversational AI sharing mechanisms across consumer and workplace platforms. As employees routinely turn to generative assistants to draft sensitive emails, analyze confidential datasets, and debug proprietary codebases, casual link-sharing features can inadvertently convert confidential corporate intelligence into publicly accessible web documents.
