Google is expanding the redesigned Gemini assistant overlay beyond the Pixel devices that received it earlier. Android Authority reported on October 30 that an update to the Google app is bringing the interface to Android phones more broadly. The change is primarily visual, but it gives users of other Android brands access to a design previously associated with Google's newest smartphones.

The new interface introduces a sparkling animation around Gemini's floating assistant controls. Small dots and soft lighting effects appear around the Ask Gemini input area, reflecting Google's Neural Expressive design language. The visual changes emphasize the assistant's active state while retaining the familiar text input and microphone controls.

Google has also adjusted the appearance of the input field after the introductory animation finishes. Its edges now have subtle shading that creates a more dimensional appearance. Android Authority notes that the effect is particularly noticeable in dark mode, while the differences are less pronounced when the phone uses a light theme.

The redesign is being distributed through the Google app rather than a separate Android operating system upgrade. Users can check the Play Store for an available Google app update, although visibility may vary during rollout. Android Authority also suggests restarting the app if the new appearance does not show immediately. The reported change concerns Gemini's interface, and it should not be confused with the announcement of a new underlying AI model or additional assistant capabilities.
