Google is expanding Gemini Notebook's educational capabilities with direct access to hundreds of textbooks at no charge. The company announced the addition on October 29, and Android Authority published fresh coverage on October 30 outlining how students can use the new Textbooks feature. The catalog includes material from OpenStax, Open Textbook Library, and India's S Chand Publishing, bringing academic reference material directly into the AI-assisted notebook experience.

The feature allows users to open a notebook, select Add sources, and choose Textbooks to browse the available collection. Once a book has been added, Gemini Notebook can answer questions about its content and provide citations linking back to the underlying material. This source-grounded approach is designed to make the answers easier to check against the textbook rather than requiring students to rely only on an AI-generated explanation.

The integrated books can also serve as the basis for personalized study materials. Google says students can create study guides, flashcards, and practice quizzes using the selected textbook content. That gives learners several ways to engage with the same chapters, whether they are reviewing a difficult concept, preparing for an examination, or organizing material for a course.

The textbook catalog builds on Google's Expert Intelligence initiative, introduced in September. That earlier capability allowed users to incorporate eligible ebooks purchased through Google Play Books into Gemini Notebook. The new addition is distinct because the included educational titles are offered at no charge, eliminating the need to purchase those specific books before adding them as sources.

Android Authority reports that the feature is rolling out in the United States and India. Google's announcement identifies the participating providers but does not establish that every textbook from those publishers is included. For students, the practical benefit is a growing collection of structured academic resources that can be queried and transformed inside the same workspace, although generated explanations and study materials still warrant checking against the cited text.
