Bose acquires lifestyle audio brand Skullcandy to expand consumer reach and youth market share
The Framingham audio giant absorbs the Park City headphone maker as an independent subsidiary following successful Sound by Bose hardware collaborations.

Acoustic engineering pioneer Bose Corporation officially announced the acquisition of lifestyle headphone and audio accessories brand Skullcandy, absorbing the youth-focused hardware maker to broaden its consumer footprint across mainstream and action-sports demographics. Under the agreement, Skullcandy will continue operating as an independent brand headquartered in Park City, Utah, integrated into Bose’s Premium Consumer Audio business unit.
The corporate acquisition solidifies a multi-year collaborative partnership between the two audio competitors. Over the past eighteen months, Skullcandy has integrated proprietary "Sound by Bose" acoustic engineering—including advanced digital signal processing, spatial audio head-tracking, and class-leading active noise cancellation (ANC)—into flagship lifestyle products such as the Crusher 1080 ANC over-ear headphones and the Method 360 ANC sports earbuds.
Bose acquired Skullcandy from an investment fund managed by Mill Road Capital Management LLC for an undisclosed cash sum. Speaking on the strategic rationale, Bose CEO Lila Snyder explained that Skullcandy brings authentic community ties to skateboarding, snowboarding, gaming, and Gen-Z consumers where Bose historically struggled to establish cultural cachet, neatly complementing Bose's 2024 luxury acquisition of high-end audiophile conglomerate McIntosh Group.
The acquisition illustrates a bifurcated strategy among independent consumer audio manufacturers competing against vertically integrated tech conglomerates like Apple, Sony, and Samsung. By anchoring its acoustic portfolio with ultra-luxury hardware at the top end and accessible, bass-forward lifestyle audio at entry pricing, Bose aims to leverage its proprietary acoustic silicon and patent portfolio across diverse consumer demographics without diluting its core brand identity.
