Apple Music Turns Karaoke Into Shareable Videos With New Selfie Sing Feature
A new feature discovered in the iOS 27.3 beta combines synchronized lyrics, front-camera recording, and vocal effects, letting Apple Music subscribers capture their own performances.

Apple Music is expanding beyond traditional karaoke with Selfie Sing, a feature introduced in the first iOS 27.3 developer beta. As reported by MacRumors on November 3, the addition lets users record themselves singing along to selected songs while watching synchronized lyrics on their iPhone screens. The result is a video performance that can be saved or shared without leaving Apple's music ecosystem.
The experience begins with a dedicated Selfie Sing playlist inside Apple Music. Selecting a compatible track reveals a camera control that activates the iPhone's front-facing camera. Users can then start recording while lyrics scroll across the display, combining their performance with the selected music. The feature builds on Apple Music Sing, the karaoke functionality Apple originally introduced with iOS 16.2.
Apple has also included post-recording audio adjustments. According to MacRumors, users can change the relative volume of their recorded voice and choose among four effects: Megaphone, Echo, Concert Hall, and Studio. Completed recordings can be exported to the Photos library or shared with other people, turning what was previously a listening and singing experience into a form of personalized video creation.
The initial playlist includes recognizable songs from artists such as Aretha Franklin, Madonna, Oasis, and Britney Spears. However, compatibility is not universal. MacRumors reports that Selfie Sing recording is currently limited to supported tracks rather than the complete Apple Music catalog. Whether Apple plans to expand that selection has not been confirmed.
There is also an important distinction between discovering the playlist and using the recording tools. The playlist can appear on devices running iOS 27.2, but activating the selfie camera requires the iOS 27.3 beta. Apple has not established a confirmed public release date for Selfie Sing in the referenced report, so the feature should currently be treated as a beta capability rather than a generally available Apple Music update.
