A new supply-chain report suggests Apple expects its affordable laptop lineup to roughly double shipments next year, as a second-generation model approaches.

Apple is reportedly preparing for a substantial expansion of its entry-level MacBook business. According to a November 4 report from DigiTimes, the company has provided suppliers with a forecast of 16 million MacBook Neo shipments for 2027, approximately twice the nearly eight million units expected during 2026.

The figures come from supply-chain sources cited by DigiTimes rather than a public announcement from Apple. They describe anticipated shipments, not confirmed consumer purchases or guaranteed production orders. Nevertheless, the reported forecast suggests Apple expects its lower-priced notebook family to become a significantly larger part of its Mac business.

The existing MacBook Neo arrived in March 2026, giving the product less than a full calendar year on sale. A second-generation MacBook Neo is reportedly planned for early 2027, according to previous reporting cited by 9to5Mac. A full year of availability could contribute to higher shipments, although the reported increase also points to expectations of stronger demand.

Earlier reports have suggested that the next model could move from the A18 Pro processor to Apple's A19 Pro and increase memory from 8GB to 12GB. Those specifications remain unconfirmed, and the November 4 supply-chain report should not be interpreted as a product announcement.

The new shipment estimate is significant because it provides a specific measure of Apple's reported expectations for the MacBook Neo lineup. Whether those forecasts translate into actual deliveries will depend on production capacity, pricing, competition and consumer demand. Apple has not publicly confirmed the 16-million-unit target.
