Affinity has released its redesigned creative suite for iPad, extending its unified desktop application to Apple's tablets. Announced on November 2, the new app brings vector illustration, photo editing, page design, and digital sketching into a single workspace. The software is free for individual users, with optional artificial intelligence features available through a paid Canva subscription.

The release introduces four connected creative environments: Sketch, Vector, Pixel, and Layout. Artists can begin with freehand drawings, convert their ideas into editable vector shapes, refine photographs, and assemble publication-ready documents without moving between separate applications. Affinity uses a shared .af file format, allowing projects to move between compatible desktop and iPad installations.

Photography tools include RAW development, editable masks, non-destructive adjustments, object removal, and support for complex compositions. The company also promotes professional publishing features, including advanced typography, master pages, and print-oriented export controls. Existing files can be imported from formats including PSD, AI, INDD, IDML, PDF, and SVG, potentially reducing the effort required to move projects from other design applications.

The interface has been adapted for touch interaction and Apple Pencil input, including pressure-sensitive drawing, tilt controls, gestures, and detailed vector manipulation. Affinity claims that the application can handle demanding documents and large image files while remaining responsive. Those performance statements come from the developer and should not be interpreted as independently established benchmark results.

The free offering does not include every optional service. Canva AI Studio, which provides tools for noise reduction, background removal, and other assisted editing operations, requires an eligible Canva premium plan. Affinity also acknowledges that several desktop capabilities are missing from the initial iPad release, including macro recording, batch processing, and certain specialized panels. The immediate significance is broader access to professional creative tools on iPad, rather than complete feature parity with the desktop version.
